Webinar: Rapid Point-of-Care Testing: The Next Frontier in Pharmacogenomics by John McDermott

Dr John McDermott is a Clinical Geneticist and an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. He was the UK’s first Academic Clinical Fellow in Genomic Medicine. Working at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine his research focuses on the application of genomics in acute and everyday healthcare settings. He has recently been awarded funding from the NIHR to undertake the world’s first trial of a point-of-care genetic test in the acute setting and is an NIHR Doctoral Fellow. (@John_H_McD)

During the webinar, John discussed new rapid point of care (POC) systems able to detect genetic variation by the bedside. This webinar explored the current genomic POC landscape, highlighted emerging technologies, and outlined the associated challenges including regulation and quality control. This session particularly focused on new rapid CYP2C19 genotyping platforms, and their potential to facilitate tailored antiplatelet prescribing at the point of need.

This webinar, hosted by EMQN, took place on Sep 19, 2024 15:00 CEST.
