EMQN CIC is proud to have contributed educational materials to the University of Oxford’s 2025/2026 MSc in Precision Medicine, delivered by the Department of Oncology. This opportunity reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting high-quality education and best practices in molecular diagnostics.
EMQN CIC was invited by Helene Dreau, Principal Clinical Scientist from the Dept. of Oncology at Oxford University, to provide a short, recorded lecture and supporting educational resources on the role of External Quality Assessment (EQA) in ensuring the reliability and accuracy of molecular testing in clinical genomics.
The resources developed included:
- A 20-minute recorded lecture: An Introduction to EQA in Molecular Pathology
- A one-page summary of additional reading, exploring a relevant topic not covered in the lecture
- A curated list of 3–5 key academic papers for further reading
- A set of multiple-choice questions to help students assess their understanding
Miss Dreau praised the educational materials for their quality and relevance, commenting:
“We can only thank you again for your time and expertise, and your engagement with our Module. We are delighted with the final product, as, thanks to you, we believe it provides an expert level of information while remaining accessible, interesting and inviting to our students”.
The students’ feedback was extremely positive, having found the overall module well-structured and informative, and helping to provide an overview of the importance of considering a quality framework initiative, including participation in EQA schemes.
EMQN’s involvement in this program supports our mission to improve patient outcomes worldwide by driving quality in laboratory medicine. By helping to educate the next generation of scientists and clinicians, we are raising awareness of the vital role EQA plays in ensuring confidence in genomic and molecular test results, a cornerstone of safe, effective precision medicine.
We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a prestigious institution and look forward to developing further partnerships that advance education and quality in our field.
Special thanks to our EMQN CIC team members Melanie Cheetham, Victoria Williams, and Arfa Maqsood for their contributions to this initiative.
