Applicable to all labs undertaking molecular testing for this cancer type using FFPE tissue.
It is MANDATORY to participate in this EQA scheme for the COMMON BIOMARKERS option, you must also select an item from the Lung New and Emerging biomarkers options. if you do not want to participate select “I do not wish to purchase Lung New and Emerging”

Target/Genes:

This EQA scheme includes variants in the EGFR, KRAS and BRAF genes. There is a flexible EQA option to test new and emerging biomarkers in Lung (NSCLC) cancer; the genes we include vary year on year, and may include, for example, variants in the ERBB2, KRAS, TP53 and MET genes.

EQA Assessment

The scheme is designed to assess the analytical process (genotyping), and reporting (biological and clinical interpretation of the test result) including the overall report layout, content and clerical accuracy. 

Sample Details

Mock clinical cases with matching real human tumour tissue paraffin embedded (FFPE) and artificial FFPE reference materials (designed to simulate real patient samples) are provided for both the COMMON BIOMARKERS and the NEW & EMERGING BIOMARKERS. Five cases are provided for each EQA option. One 10um or 15um thick FFPE section per case is provided.
 

Samples are provided as cut sections (rolled scrolls / curls) only – we cannot provide slide mounted materials.

Variant allele frequencies of the artificial FFPE materials have been validated using ddPCR. 

EQA Results

 

Participants will receive an individual report including educational advice and a scheme summary report which includes additional information from the cohort of participants including geographical spread, methodologies employed, common errors, learning points and scheme statistics which allow participants to benchmark their results. 

Each laboratory will also receive a single certificate listing all EQAs participated in with performance result for each year.

This EQA is supported by an educational grant from AstraZeneca, fees are subsidised so there is a reduced cost for participants. The EQA providers acknowledge and thank AstraZeneca for this support.
