Webinar Series Now Available – Ensuring Accurate Classification of BRCA1 and BRCA2 Variants

A joint EMQN/GenQA webinar series consisting of 2 1-hour educational webinars aiming to promote accurate classification of BRCA1 and BRCA 2 gene variants in the context of treatment with Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) is now available at the link below.

The first webinar took place on the 28th April 2021 where Dr. Simon Patton from EMQN, Prof. Sandi Deans from GenQA and a panel consisting of Dr. Emma Howard (Scientific Operational Director, North West Genomic Laboratory) and Ms. Miranda Durkie (Lead Clinical Scientist, North East & Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory) provided insight into current best practices for assessing BRCA variants as well as a summary of available resources. A Q&A session followed.

The second webinar took place on 30th June 2021 where Dr. Simon Patton from EMQN, Prof. Sandi Deans from GenQA and a panel consisting of Dr. Emma Howard (Scientific Operational Director, North West Genomic Laboratory), Ms. Miranda Durkie (Lead Clinical Scientist, North East & Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory) and Ms. Trudi McDevitt (Senior Clinical Scientist, Dept. of Clinical Genetics, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland) discussed details of process and evidence used to classify 6 BRCA variants in an Individual Competency Assessment in addition to a summary of participant performance.
