EMQN and GfH EQA scheme merger

We are very pleased to announce that on December 20th 2007 the board of the German Society of Human Genetics (GfH) approved the merger of the EMQN and GfH External Quality Assessment schemes. The board of the GfH will recommend that the molecular genetic laboratories in participate in future EMQN EQA rounds. The GfH nominated Dr. Clemens Müller-Reible of the Institute of Human Genetics , Univ. of Würzburg , as the official representative of the GfH on the EMQN Management Group.

This is a significant step forward in the harmonisation of quality assurance in clinical molecular genetics in Europe and will help to make EMQN sustainable.

We would like to thank all colleagues in EuroGentest, EMQN and GfH for making this possible.

Policy on mutation nomenclature

EQA scheme participation is NOT limited solely to EU countries!

EMQN was originally set up with funding from the European Union (Framework 4 programme: Standards, Measurement and Testing Contract SMT4-CT98-7515). During this time, participation in our activities was restricted to EU countries.

From 2002, EMQN has been funded by subscriptions from our users. There is NO restriction on participation from countries outside of the EU. EMQN is truely global in its remit!
